The economic downturn may have taken a toll on attendance, but the 84th Annual Conference & Trade Show of theInternational Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM) held in Boston in July still resounded with high-energy levels and general enthusiasm about the program. “Boston was an outstanding conference with some of the best quality and variety in the educational offerings that we have previously had,” said an enthusiastic Shura Lindgren-Garnett, CFE, who assumed the title of Chairman of the Board of Directors in Boston.

In 2008, more than one million meeting & convention attendees came to Anaheim California, according to the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau (AOCVCB). “Meetings have a significant economic impact on our area’s hotels, restaurants, transportation and entertainment venues,” said Charles Ahlers, President of the AOCVCB. “We are very pleased that so many meeting and event planners reported record numbers in 2008 and had a positive experience here.”

Each year the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) honors outstanding members for their contributions to PCMA and the meetings and hospitality industry. The winners of the 2008 Achievement Awards, who will be recognized at the 53rd PCMA Annual Meeting, January 11-14, 2009, to be held at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center.

The Embassy Suites Murfreesboro Hotel & Conference Center construction is on-schedule for completion in fall of 2008, according to venue officials. The all-suite, luxury hotel and conference center will fill a unique niche in the Greater Nashville market with the largest convention space outside of Davidson County.
