ChicagoThe Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) has named John Nawn as its new vice president of education. According to the associations president and CEO, Deborah Sexton, education remains the primary objective of the nonprofit and Nawn is the chosen candidate to carry the torch. Education is the cornerstone of PCMA, said Sexton. John will help our organization continue to fulfill this primary objective for our members. He has the track record and enthusiasm necessary to keep PCMAs education initiatives the best in the meetings industry.
Nawn has more than 20 years experience in the training and education industry and has led various education programs for a number of global high-tech and healthcare organizations. Currently, he is a board member of the Chicagoland Chapter of the American Society of Training and Development and hosts an annual conference for executive level learning professionals.
Calling PCMA group the "association of choice among senior meeting and conference industry professionals," the new education VP remarked that its professional programs reflect the needs of its members, including singl- topic seminars, such as the CEO Forum to the Executive Edge program, which Nawn called, "a series of MBA-type courses delivered by faculty from leading business schools, including Wharton and the University of Chicago."
Other offerings include PCMAs Think Tank sessions and Industry Issue Forum. Nawn added, "Because our members are not only busy professionals but geographically distributed, most of our programs are either broadcast live or archived for later access. We also have online courses for CMP preparation, sales techniques as well as other essential skills and abilities. Education must play a more strategic role than it traditionally has in preparing our members, and the industry as a whole, to deal with changing business realities."
