ANCHORAGE, AK—The Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau has renewed its contract with SMG to manage the William A. Egan Civic Center in Anchorage, Alaska. The three-year contract runs through 2008 and allows for extensions through 2010.
We are pleased and honored that the extension was approved, says Wes Westley, president, SMG. We look forward to a mutually prosperous future, building on our successful relationship with the Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The Egan Center is Alaska's largest convention and banquet facility and offers more than 45,000 square feet of meeting, exhibit, and pre function spaces. In 2006, the Egan Center will host the largest number of national conventions in the venues history.
Along with the contract renewal of the Egan Center, SMG has been awarded pre-opening services and management of the new Anchorage Convention Center projected to open in the fall of 2008. The new center will feature a 50,000-square-foot exhibit hall, a 26,000-square-foot banquet hall and 11,000 square feet of flexible meeting space. This state-of- the-art facility will also offer audio visual services, heated sidewalks and in-house catering. Construction for the new Anchorage Convention Center began in April. The Egan Center as well as the new Anchorage Convention Center provide a wealth of opportunities for local businesses; the hotel community and the myriad of tour operators to capitalize on the coming surge in conventioneer attendance, says Greg Spears, General Manager of the Egan Center. |
