Toronto Approves Hotel for Exhibition Place
Convention Center/CVB News

In early December, the Toronto City Council approved a proposal by HKHotels that involves a Hotel Development Project on the grounds of Exhibition Place. The proposed venue includes meeting space, 320 Rooms, resort-style amenities, and linkages to the Direct Energy Centre and Allstream. Canada’s largest  Convention Complex, Exhibition Place in Toronto, will soon have a new convention hotel. In early December, the Toronto City Council approved a proposal by HKHotels that involves a Hotel Development Project on the grounds of Exhibition Place. The new convention center hotel is scheduled to go under construction in 2011 and open in 2013.

“This hotel is the last piece to become a reality in our long term development plan for Exhibition Place,” said Joe Pantalone, Deputy Mayor and Chairman of Exhibition Place. “We are pleased City Council has overwhelmingly approved this development and look forward to the hotel attracting more jobs, leisure, meeting and convention business to Exhibition Place and the City of Toronto.”

Currently called “Hotel in the Garden”, the new hotel will be located south of Direct Energy Centre and adjacent to the Allstream Centre at Exhibition Place. The approved design includes meeting space, 320 Rooms, resort-style amenities, and linkages to the Direct Energy Centre and Allstream. The project, which features extensive green landscaped areas, complies with Toronto Green Standards for New Construction and will target a LEED Silver Rating.

Exhibition Place, which attracts more than 5.3 million visitors annually, features the Direct Energy Centre, which encompases more than 1 million square feet of meeting and exhibition space. The Allstream Centre, Canada’s first Conference Centre to target a
LEED Silver rating, opened in October 2009.

“With HKHotels as our partner, we are assured that the hotel will not only address the heritage of the site but be an iconic building within the City,” added Pantalone.
