College-level football will remain at the Alerus Center, the VenuWorks-managed multi-purpose facility in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The University of North Dakota has signed a 10 year-lease agreement with the Alerus Center as the home turf of its football team, the Fighting Sioux.
“This new contract is a great evolution in our partnership with the Alerus Center,” said Robert Kelley, President, UND. “As the primary tenant, we have been pleased to call the Alerus Center the home of UND football.”
The Alerus Center Arena—which features a 99,600-square-foot floor and can seat up to approximately 22,000 for concerts and other large events is convertible to an enclosed football stadium complete with an artificial turf playing surface that meets NFL and NCAA specifications. In addition to College Football, the field also hosts collegiate Soccer and Woman’s Softball as well as other outdoor field sports and championship regional high school football games.
“It also has become the home of UND’s spring commencement, as well other UND-related activities throughout the year,” added Kelly. “We look forward to a decade of exciting Division I football and an even closer relationship in the years to come.
Although UND football has been played on the field since the opening of the Alerus Center, this is the first time a multiple-year football lease with UND has been signed. "This is the beginning of a new relationship with UND and the signing of this lease speaks volumes to our partnership" said Steve Hyman, Executive Director, Alerus Center.
The Alerus Center Arena also features 18 private suites, private offices, meeting rooms and star dressing rooms, telephone and high speed Internet equipped production rooms, and oversized load-in doors. The multi-purpose venue also features a Convention Center, with a 25,588-square-foot ball room and 12 individual meeting rooms ranging from 600 square feet to 1,300 square feet.
