San Jose, CA—At the 34th World Conference and Exposition of the Religious Conference Management Association (RCMA), Sally Gardiner, director of convention sales for the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, was awarded the RCMAs Presidents Award. RCMA President Tom Jackson of United Pentecostal Church International presented Gardiner with the award. In his remarks, Jackson noted that Gardiner has displayed her expertise in various tutorials, presided at general sessions, and served with distinction on RCMAs board of directors. "In this modern day, when people jump from one employer to another, she is somewhat unique in that she has worked for the same convention and visitors bureau for the past 16 years," Jackson said.
A near-record breaking crowd of 1,735 religious meeting professionals attended the event, which was held January 31-to-Feburary 3 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. Hotels, CVBs and other suppliers have come to realize that RCMA members represent a real power and economic resource in the meetings industry, said RCMA executive director, Dewayne Woodring, CMP, CEM. Woodring added, RCMA sold out its exhibit space for the 06 Expo in one just date. RCMA attendees plan over 16,000 events that annually attract 14.2 million attendees.
