New VP Promotions At SMG
Event Industry News

Wes Westley, President and CEO with Maureen Ginty, recently promoted to Executive Vice President Marketing Services and Human Resources. In a top level management realignment, SMG has promoted three industry veterans, including Ginty, to newly created Executive Vice Presidents Posts. SMG, the Philadelphia-based facility management, marketing and development company, announced three major promotions at the executive level. The industry veterans— Maureen Ginty, John Burns, and Mike Evans have been promoted to three, newly created positions, each including the title of Executive Vice President. “This new position recognizes their contributions,” explained Wes Westley, President and CEO, SMG. 

Ginty joined SMG in 1991, to include Public Relations, Advertising, and Presentation Development Services. Burns, who was named Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, has been with SMG since 1982. He is responsible for all corporate accounting as well as the Risk Management and Management Information Systems Departments of the company. In addition, he oversees the company's Contract Administrator for all management and subcontractor contracts.
 
Evans who came to SMG in 1998, was named Executive Vice President Sports and Entertainment. He has been given the responsibility for all of the bookings in the various SMG Stadiums, Arenas and Theaters. With a background as a Concert Promoter and Tour Manager, Evans interacts with various Sports League commissioners, Concert Producers, Tour Promoters and Talent Agents that keep SMG facilities busy. He also oversees Six Regional Booking Managers and was instrumental in developing
SMGBooking.com, a proprietary Event Booking System.

“John, Mike and Maureen have been critical members of my team and SMG for more than a decade,” added Westley.Mike Evans is the Executive Vice President Sports and Entertainment, responsible for all of the bookings in the various SMG Stadiums, Arenas and Theaters. “In their capacity, they will continue to report to me, providing advice and support as we move SMG forward to bigger and greater things.”

In related news, Doug Thornton has been promoted to Senior Vice President. Based in New Orleans at the Louisiana Superdome, Thornton joined SMG in 1997 and oversees Doug Thornton has been promoted to Senior Vice President “Doug has done an excellent job, knows all sides of our industry and contributes to the betterment of SMG,” said Wes Westley, President & CEO, SMG. seven separate accounts in the Gulf Coast Area. During his tenure at SMG, Thornton has been a leader in producing several high profile events including, two NFL Super Bowls, both the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Final Four, two BCS Championship football games, the Essence Music Festival and the annual Sugar Bowl Classic. “Doug has done an excellent job, knows all sides of our industry and contributes to the betterment of SMG,” said Westley. “In this new capacity, Doug will report directly to me.”

For more than 28 years, SMG has been an industry leader and currently provides facility services to more than 200 venues, controls more than 1.5 million entertainment seats worldwide and manages more than 10 million square feet of meeting/exhibition space.
