GREAT ESCAPES VISITS GREATER READING

A Pennsylvania Dutch “Hex Barn” is one of the unique features of Reading Pennsylvania and Berks County, which will be featured on the travel program, Great Escapes. In February, more people will likely be ready to "take a ride on the Reading" and they won’t even have to be playing Monopoly. On February 6, the Greater Reading Convention and Visitors Bureau, which represents Reading and Berks County, Pennsylvania, will be featured on Great Escapes, a 30minute nationally-syndicated travel TV show that will first air on Women's Entertainment Network (WE).

The Great Escapes episode showcases the unique attractions making Greater Reading a fun and fascinating destination, including covered bridges, hex barns and other vestiges of the region’s Pennsylvania Dutch Heritage, as well as the VF Outlet Berks Jazz Festival, GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, Hopewell Iron Plantation,  Kutztown Folk Festival, and the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum. Great Escapes, featuring Reading, Pennsylvannia will run on various networks, including CNBC, MSNBC, ABC and Fox.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the rich heritage, arts and culture that Greater Reading has to offer and to draw even more visitors to our area," said Crystal Seitz, President, Greater Reading Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The exposure supports our economic growth and shows everyone that Greater Reading is a fun and welcoming place with a multitude of things to do and interesting places to visit."

In addition to its growing array of distinctive attractions, Greater Reading has also gained a reputation as a prime Image meeting destination. Some of the meeting facilities available include: the Abraham Lincoln, a Wyndham Historical Hotel (5 breakout rooms; largest meeting space is 4,828 square feet); Bear Creek Mountain Resort (6 meeting rooms, 4,980 square feet of meeting space); The Greater Reading Expo Center; (225,000 square feet of meeting/exhibit space, including 35 meeting rooms); The Inn at Reading, the area’s premier full-service Hotel and Conference Center, (13 meeting rooms; seats—Banquet: 800; Theater: 1,200; Classroom: 500 Dining: 200); Reading Art Works, (seats—Banquet/Sit Down Dinner: 350; Cocktail Reception: 800; Classroom: 350; Theater: 750); Sheraton Reading Hotel (14,000 square feet of meeting space, 12 break rooms; seats—Banquet: 1,000; Theater: 1,500; Classroom: 700; Dining: 150) and the Sovereign Center, ( 9,000+ seat arena that features approximately, 20,000 square feet of column-free exhibition space and 5,000 square feet of Meeting Room space). Not everything featured on Great Escapes will be about “old” Pennsylvania,. The GoggleWorks Center for the Arts is a community arts and cultural resource center located in downtown Reading and is one of the largest, most comprehensive interactive community arts centers in the country.

One of the many covered bridges in the Reading, Berks County Pennsylvania area, which will be featured on the TV program, Great Escapes, throughout the month of February. The Great Escapes' feature on Greater Reading will air through early March, specifically on WE and in local markets around the country as well as multiple cable networks, including MSNBC and CNBC, and will be syndicated in another markets on various networks, including FOX, ABC and CBS. Additionally, the segment will appear on CNBC’s hotel network, to be aired six times in more than 300,000 luxury rooms, including The Ritz Carlton, The Waldorf Astoria , and The Hilton and Embassy Suites Hotels.
