It started as just another night of classic Rock and Roll in the Twin Cities for Derek Stiller of Chanhassen, Minnesota. Attending the the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul for the sold-out Police concert with a friend, Stiller entered through Gate 1 at 7:17 p.m., when the arena’s guest service personnel surprised him with the designation of being the 10 Millonth Xcel Energy Center Fan.
For being the 10 millionth fan, Stiller received a prize package that included a pair of tickets to 10 Xcel Energy Center events of his choice in the coming year, a Minnesota Wild Minnesota Wild road-trip travel package, a custom drum head cover, and an Xcel Energy Center "10 Millionth Fan" jersey.
"I just wanted to get myself a beer, but this is way better," said Stiller.
Xcel Energy Center first opened its doors in September 2000 as the home of the Minnesota Wild. Six-years—and 10 million fans—later the arena has played host to the 2004 NHL All-Star Weekend, 2003 Stanley Cup Playoffs, 2002 NCAA Frozen Four; legendary acts like the Rolling Stones, Barbra Streisand, The Three Tenors, Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan. Home to about 150 live events each year, in 2008 the Xcel Energy Center will welcome the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and the Republican National Convention. |
