JACKSON CAPITLIZES WITH SMG
Convention Center/CVB News

SMG will manage and handle booking for the new $65 million Capital City Convention Center, located in Jackson, the state capital of Mississippi. The Venue will total an estimated 264,500 square feet including 90,000 square feet of exhibition space and a 30,000 square foot ballroom. When the capital of Mississippi becomes the home of the largest convention center in the state, the largest convention management company in the country will be at the helm. In May, a management  agreement was reached between SMG and the Capital City Convention Center Commission and SMG will manage the Capital City Convention Center in Jackson, due to be completed in January 2009.

"We selected SMG to help the center achieve the maximum impact for the citizens of Jackson," said Fred Banks, Chairman of the Capital City Convention Center Commission. "This is an important facility in our city's quest to move to the next level."

SMG will manage and handle booking for the new venue during its current pre-opening phase and for five years after the January completion date. The $65 million Capital City Convention Center, located in Jackson's convention district, is one of the centerpieces of the redevelopment now taking place in the downtown area. The Venue will total an estimated 264,500 square feet including 90,000 square feet of exhibition space and a 30,000 square foot ballroom. It will be integrated with the newly opened Mississippi TelCom Center, a conference center with approximately 21,000 square feet of meeting space and state-of-the-art meeting technology.

"At the heart of every great American city is a thriving central business district," said Frank E. Melton, Mayor, City of Jackson, and the venue’s groundbreaking ceremonies last year. "The Capital City Convention Center will help us create a much-needed focal point for commerce, culture and recreation, and it is an essential component in our long-range plans for revitalizing downtown Jackson."
