SMG has signed a five-year agreement to provide management consulting services at The Chevrolet Centre in Youngstown, Ohio. The day-to-day operations at the venue will continue to be managed by JAC Management Co. of Struthers, Ohio, who has managed the Centre since October 2007. Under the new contract, SMG will assist JAC with daily operations while providing marketing and event booking services as well as risk management and insurance, administration, and finance functions.
“SMG has an impeccable reputation in our industry and all of us at JAC feel honored and privileged to work along side them,” said Eric Ryan, principal of JAC, who will also serve as the Centre’s Executive Director. “We truly are excited to work with SMG and look forward to a bright future for the Chevrolet Centre and The City of Youngstown.”
Opened in 2005, the Chevrolet Centre has a maximum seating capacity of 7,000. The Centre is home to professional hockey as well as the Mahoning Valley Thunder arena football team, playing in ArenaFootball2. It has played host to numerous concerts by such artists as 3 Doors Down, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Carrie Underwood. The Centre has also hosted family shows like Disney on Ice and televised events from World Wrestling Entertainment.
“SMG looks forward to working hand-in-hand with JAC by bringing the Chevrolet Centre into our booking network and, in turn, bringing more events to the Chevrolet Centre and the people of the Mahoning Valley," said Mike Evans, SMG’s Senior Vice President of Sports and Entertainment.
Bringing SMG on board is seen as beneficial not just to the venue but to Youngstown “The worldwide management experience of SMG coupled with JAC’s local presence will insure that the Chevrolet Centre remains a facility that makes Youngstown proud,” said Jay Williams, Mayor of Youngstown.
“We believe in the market and know it has untapped potential,” added Evans.
