There is no better evidence that trade shows, conventions and meetings are revenue resources for a destination than the benefits accrued for the host city of the 2006 Expo! Expo!, the major industry event attended by planners and organizers of trade shows, conventions and meetings.
The City of San Diego reported an economic impact totaling $7,494,108, according to the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE, formerly IAEM) , from Expo! Expo! IAEE's Annual Meeting & Exhibition held 28-30 November 2006 at the San Diego Convention Center. The results provided by the venue revealed that 1,991 attendees directly spent $3,122,545 during the event.
"These numbers are just one example of the economic benefits to cities of our exhibitions and events," said Steven Hacker, president, IAEE. "Ours (IAEE) is a relatively small niche event. It is stunning to consider the greater impact that larger events have upon the cities and regions in which they occur. This is why IAEE is talking constantly to public policy officials about the importance of our events to their constituents and to the economies of their cities, counties, states and nations.”
Expo! Expo! IAEE's Annual Meeting & Exhibition 2007 will be held 10-12 December 2007 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino and Convention Center in Las Vegas. |
