Greater Fort Lauderdale has become a hot spot for tourism as well as for meetings, conventions and trade shows. Greater Fort Lauderdale is sandwiched between two exciting Floridian cities with fashionable Palm Beach 42 miles to the north, and hip Miami 23 miles to the south, making it a convenient meetings destination. In addition, the area represented by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau includes 23 miles of Blue Wave Beaches and more than 300 miles of inland waterways that run from the Intra-coastal to the Everglades, which has led to monikers such as the “Venice of America,” the “American Riviera,” and the “Yachting Capital of the World.” There are approximately 40,000 registered boats and yachts gracing its harbors and Fort Lauderdale Beach which recently underwent a $26-million renovation with its new walkways, luscious landscaping and an outdoor water wall.
But besides its convenient location and stunning ocean-front landscape, Greater Fort Lauderdale knows how to cater to meetings and events. Besides boasting the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, this year-round destination has more than 33,000 hotel rooms at a variety of hotels, resorts and Superior Small Lodgings, including several new five-star luxury resorts opening soon, and more than 4,000 restaurants.
Greater Fort Lauderdale also features one of the premier large meeting venues in the Southeast, the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center, which recently implemented a $34-million expansion that increased the facility to 600,000 square feet. The convention center has a total of 32 meeting rooms including three ballrooms and 200,000 square feet exhibit space, with 50,000 square feet being new. Other amenities include an on-site kitchen, and the Breezin' Java/Cyber Café which features eight permanent terminals and at least eight more plug-in table locations for laptops, Starbuck's coffees, as well as specialty foods & beverages and television monitors tuned CNN/MSNBC news.
