 Indianapolis-—The Hyatt Regency Indianapolis has begun a $11-million renovation that includes adding 10,000 square feet of meeting space, an Italian/American restaurant, cosmopolitan lounge, Starbucks and improved lobby. The project, which started on January 21 and is due for completion by mid-July 2007, is both an expansion and a makeover, allowing the venue to offer more space options for meeting planners with the creation of a flexible, column free, 8,000-square-foot ballroom and an atrium that will accommodate up to 1,300 people and complement the current Regency Ballroom's 9,400 square feet.
In addition to the ballroom, four new meeting rooms will be created, totaling 1,430 square feet. The second floor rooms will offer an additional 1,750 square feet of meeting space and include an executive boardroom.
Venue managers are excited about the upgraded, feeling that increasing numbers of meeting planners are looking at Indianapolis as a destination. "There is a demand in Indianapolis for hotels that can provide two ballrooms to host meet-and-feed conventions and our new junior ballroom will fulfill this need," said Brian Comes, General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis. "The additional ballroom will also provide groups greater flexibility with its ability to convert into four breakout rooms."
In addition, Hyatt Regency Indianapolis is part of a city-wide effort to grow the meetings and events industry. "The Hyatt's renovation and expansion is a key part of Indianapolis' total expansion effort," said Chris Gahl with the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association.
