TURTLE BAY’S BOYLE WINS SALES AWARD

Turtle Bay Resort features the Pacific Rim Conference Center, which is “IACC (International Association of Conference Centers) approved and includes Kahuku Ballroom, 9,040 square feet of event space divisible into six meeting rooms and 2,100 square feet of pre-function space; the Kuilima Ballroom with 8,830 square feet of function space that can be divided into three separate meeting rooms; the Sunset Room with 3,800 square feet of function space and dramatic oceanfront views of the Pacific—it seats 260 for banquets and up to 350 for receptions; Six additional conference rooms and a 1,000-square-foot seaside Pavilion. Bob Boyle, Vice President and General Manager of Turtle Bay Resort, North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii, has received the "CEO of Sales" award, Benchmark Hospitality International’s internal recognition for sales excellence. "Benchmark’s CEO of Sales Award is presented annually to the general manager who exemplifies truly outstanding contributions and extraordinary support for his or her property's sales efforts," said Sam Haigh, President, Benchmark Hospitality International. "I can’t think of a better example of this excellence this year than Bob. We’re very proud to present this honor to him in 2008!"

BENCHMARK TURNS VIRGINIA GREEN

 The Founders Inn and Spa, which features a new $5 million full-service resort spa, was one of three Benchmark conference centers certified Green by the Virginia Green Lodging Program Political pundits may argue whether Virginia will be a Blue or Red state on Election Day, but when it comes to Old Dominion’s growing hospitality and meetings industry, Virginia is definitely turning into a Green state. In 2007, the Virginia Beach Convention Center became the state’s first convention center to be recognized as a Certified Virginia Green Facility. Now Benchmark Hospitality International is also turning Virginia Green.

The three Benchmark Hospitality International conference centers located in the state—The Founders Inn and Spa,  in Virginia Beach, Virginia Crossings Resort, in Richmond; and Lansdowne Resort, which is located near Leesburg have earned the Virginia Green Lodging certificate of Environmental Commitment by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.

NJ SHORE VENUES RENEW SMG CONTRACTS

Boardwalk Hall, which was originally constructed in 1929, underwent a $90 million renovation that transformed the historic Hall into a modern special events arena capable of seating 14,500. The venue recently renewed its management contract with SMG.  SMG has shored up its position on the Jersey Shore. The company has announced the renewal of multi-year contracts for two leading venues located in world-famous New Jersey beaches—the Atlantic City Convention Center, Boardwalk Hall and the Wildwoods Convention Center.

“Benchmark Japan” Bolsters "Conference Center Concept" in Asia

Tokyo Conference Center Shinagawa, a Benchmark property in Japan, was the starting point for new Benchmark Japan venture. The company plans to open two more conference centers within the next five years.  Benchmark Hospitality Intertnational has taken a bigger step in strengthening its position in the emerging Asia meetings market. The company has launched a joint venture partnership with. Hiromi Takagi and. Kozue Honda, both of Tokyo, announced Burt Cabañas, Chairman/CEO, Benchmark Hospitality.

Takagi and Honda have been affiliated with the company for several years through Benchmark Tech, Benchmark Hospitality's Japanese affiliate, serving as President/Chief Operating Officer, and Vice President/General Manager respectively. The new venture has resulted from Benchmark Japan’s acquisition of 100 percent of Benchmark Tech from Tech R&DS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daiwa House, a leading Japanese company in residential and commercial and hospitality venue construction. Benchmark Tech is now officially re-branded as Benchmark Hospitality International Japan or Benchmark Japan.
