Pittsburgh is the latest city whose political leaders and hospitality industry members have raised a public outcry against the negative publicity meetings, conventions and business travel in general have received lately.  Hundreds of business leaders and hospitality employees joined together in May, at a “Travel Matters Rally,” which was organized to raise awareness about proposed state funding cuts to the travel and tourism industry that will negatively impact the region’s economy.

The partnering between Oregon Convention Center  with Smart City Networks  has led the meeting technology company to revise their service offerings to create more cost-effective technology solutions.  The new technology packages that Smart City will make available nationwide are designed to better address concerns of planners of  the meetings and events hosted by Smart City venues.

With Virginia marking the 40th anniversary of the "Virginia is for Lovers" marketing campaign in April, the same month of global celebrations of  Earth Day 2009, Governor Timothy M. Kaine declared April as "Virginia Green Travel Month." Just in time for the state-wide proclamation, the Hampton Convention & Visitors Bureau and Hampton Roads Convention Center received "Virginia Green" certification.

The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center has scored high ratings with the people who know their meetings. An analysis by the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) of its 2009 Annual Meeting, held in January in New Orleans, attended by more than 3,000 meeting planners and executives, found that their overall New Orleans experience, was extremely positive, ranging between 89 percent and 95 percent favorable.
