
The National Hockey Center in St. Could, Minnesota is getting a major makeover, courtesy of JLG Architects. The 5,763-seat arena, located on the campus of St. Cloud University and the home ice for Husky Hockey since 1989—as these renderings indicate—will undergo a renovation to enhance the fan experience and also convert the facility from a primarily-hockey arena into a multi-purpose venue, including: expanded load-in/load-out spaces, upgraded sound, lighting, acoustics and video capabilities, wider concourses, expanded concessions and food service, and additions of green rooms, more locker rooms, luxury seating, club areas. Overall, capacity will be increase by about 1,000 seats. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, JLG, which has received 60 design awards during its two decades, has offices in Minneapolis, Alexandria, Grand Forks and Fargo, and has become one of the most respected architecture firms on the northern plains. JGL will be lead architect on the project, and will work with the local form of Hagemeister and Mack Architects “JLG Architects was selected based upon their technical competence, cohesiveness and compatibility, ability to deal with aesthetic factors, unique qualifications, and geographic relationship to the project site,” said Bill Breyfogle, Director of Design and Construction for Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.
