Olympia Celebrates 3 Millionth

Saturday, 29 September 2007 07:33

The Fox Theater, owned and operated by Olympia Entertainment, celebrates the 3 millionth Detroit Tigers fan at Comerica Park.

On September 25th, the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night surpassed the 3,000,000 mark in tickets sold for the season for the first time in the history of the franchise. Ten year old Charlie Woody, 10 from Plymouth, Michigan was randomly selected by the club to represent all Tigers fans for the record-setting attendance mark. Woody, who was attending the game with his father Kent, mother Korina and sister Bess, was greeted by Tigers Senior Vice President, Business Operations, Duane McLean, and members of the front office staff upon entry through Gate A at Comerica Park. In addition to prizes which included a 27-game season ticket plan with four seats for 2008, Woody was escorted to the field and received a framed Tigers jersey with “3 Million” on its back.

The Tigers rank third in attendance in the American League behind only the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The club has sold out 41 games through its first 79 home dates. Detroit’s average attendance of 37,726 represents playing before 92 percent of Comerica Park’s 41,000 seat capacity per game. The club’s previous single-season attendance record was 2,704,794, which was set in the World Championship season of 1984 at Tiger Stadium.

Festivities commemorating this fun and historic event spread far outside the Comerica stands into downtown Detroit’s Foxtown Entertainment District, one of the fastest growing entertainment hotspots in the Midwest, as the fabulous Fox Theater marquee announced Comerica's 3 million accomplishment.  The  is owned and operated by Olympia Entertainment, one of the industry’s most diverse sports and entertainment companies, owned by Detroit entrepreneurs Mike and Marian Ilitch. In addition, Olympia manages booking and operations for Joe Louis Arena, Cobo Arena, City Theatre and Comerica Park.
