The Mayor of Newport Rhode Island, Stephen C. Waluk takes a "whack" at hotel renovation as Kathryn Farrington, Vice President Marketing & Community Partnerships, Newport County Convention & Visitors Bureau looks on. The wall breaking ceremony took place during the announcement by the Davidson Hotel Company of its $34 million renovation of the 264-room Hyatt Regency Newport Hotel & Spa . Scheduled to be completed in spring of 2008, the renovations include totally refurbishing every single guestroom; revamped lobby featuring water view, three individual check-in stations and an adjacent bar with an outside deck; plus significant upgrades will be made to special event and conference facilities. "This is a very exciting project," said John Karchner, hotel general manager. "It will also involve the construction of a 145 space parking garage, remodeling of all meeting and event space, as well as the creation of a new main entrance and lobby area which will give guests a spectacular sense of arrival."
