Among the new inductees to the Houston Hall of Fame—which is enshrined in the city’s famed George R. Brown Convention Center—is the man himself, George R. Brown. Considered a legendary Houston business titan, Brown (1898-1983), has now been enshrined in the Houston Hall of Fame exhibit at the convention center that bears his name. Brown was a founder of Brown & Root, a construction and engineering firm. Brown and his family also created the Brown Foundation. Joining George R. Brown as a 2008 Houston Hall of Fame inductee, were his daughters—Nancy Negley, Maconda O'Connor and Isabel Wilson—in recognition of their service as foundation trustees. Founded in 1951, The Brown Foundation has made grants totaling more than $1.2 billion to an array of institutions and projects, mainly in Texas, and the city of Houston. Now in its seventh year, the Hall of Fame exhibit at the George R. Brown Convention Center flanks the entrance of the ballroom and numbers 32 inductees.
