Washington State may have an expanded convention center. According to the Spokane Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Spokane Public Facilities District—operators of the Spokane Convention Center—is laying the groundwork for the expansion of the Convention Center District. Currently, the venue offers more than 164,307 square feet of meeting space. The facility, which is adjacent to the 2,700-seat INB Performing Arts Center, includes 24 state of the art breakout rooms, including the 270–seat Conference Theatre, a 25,310-square-foot, fully finished ballroom that is divisible, the spectacular Roof Deck, with a panoramic view of the river and Riverfront Park, perfect for up to 500 people for a stand-up reception, and the Group Health Exhibit Hall, a 100,160-square-foot elliptically shaped facility completed in 2006. The new expansion plans include a first phase featuring a 300 to 350-stall surface parking lot on the South Side of meeting space adjacent to the Group Health Exhibit Hall. The second phase identifies possible locations for the development of a parking structure with a minimum of 700 stalls to support events at the INB Performing Arts Center and the Convention Center. Future expansion of the Convention Center would occur in phases and in 50,000 to 100,000 square foot increments, with the projected size of the convention center at full build-out ranging from 250,000 to 300,000 square feet of exhibition space, 65,000 square feet of banquet space and 110,000 square feet of meeting space. The Spokane Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau estimates that meeting/convention attendees and leisure travelers to Spokane County spent an estimated $805.1 million in 2007, providing jobs for nearly 10,100 residents and generating $60.3 million in non-resident tax dollars.
