Many CVBs have made considerable efforts to organize their Hospitality Industry so everyone is on the same page in making a destination appealing to meeting planners, meeting attendees and other visitors. The Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau has taken this initiative beyond just the hospitality industry—the entire Lexington Police Department will soon complete the CVB’s Bluegrass Tourism Ambassador Program. Like similar programs, the Bluegrass Tourism Ambassadors Program was designed to ensure a destination-wide positive visitor experience and was aimed toward front line hospitality workers, including hotel staff, restaurant and bar staff, taxi drivers and employees and volunteers at area attractions. Lexington, Kentucky is the first city in the nation to provide this training to their entire division of police.  "With the many visitors expected in the fall of 2010, this is a great opportunity to partner with the Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau to have our officers become Certified Tourism Ambassadors.,” said Chief Bastin of the Lexington Police Department. “Our officers are proud of the community we serve, and we want all of our officers to be a resource for visitors and local citizens as well.  The Lexington Police Department is an organization of well-trained, dedicated and disciplined men and women who work together to make Lexington truly the 'Heart of the Bluegrass'." Coincidently, Detective Byron Smoot has become the 1,000th Certified Tourism Ambassador in the Bluegrass. "Police officers are a very visible part of our community, said David Lord, President of the Lexington CVB. “We are thrilled Chief Bastin is committed to putting all of his officers through our Bluegrass Tourism Ambassador Program and are pleased to be the first city in the nation to do so."
