The COBO Conference/Exhibition Center in Detroit, Michigan has recently implemented the green initiatives throughout the building in order to reduce waste and be more sensitive to the environment. Green initiatives include paper-recycling program, a can and plastic bottle recycling program, separated containers for plastic bottles, cans, paper and trash throughout the entire building, including offices, concourse and concession areas. Other green initiatives implemented by COBO include replacing the lighting system with more energy efficient fixtures and operation in the exhibit halls, replacing 84,000 fluorescent lamps with 2,936 metal halide fixtures and using chillers instead of air conditioning units to provide a more efficient means of cooling the building. In addition, COBO’s exclusive caterer, ARAMARK, has also implemented a recycling program, using biodegradable containers, napkins, cups and cutlery kits as well as environmentally responsible cleaning products.
