The Shreveport Convention Center, an SMG-managed facility in Shreveport, Louisiana will host Everything Green Expo on August 22-24. The three-day trade show—believed to be the first of its kind in the Ark-La-Tex region--will feature environmentally safe and friendly products as well as hands-on educational programs designed to help individuals and businesses find cost-saving ways to better utilize natural resources, David Mitchell, of Wilhite Solar Solutions and organizer of the event, said during the announcement, “With gas prices at an all-time high, and electric rates going even higher, everyone is seeking ways to economize. This event brings together in one place local businesses and experts in the field of conservation and green construction to help answer those questions with information about the latest products and money-saving tips.”
Shreveport and its Convention Center have already committed to going green. Last month, Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover launched Let's Go Green a campaign that includes Shreveport's new curbside recycling. "By going green, Shreveport will be at the very heart of one of the largest recycling programs in the South,” said Glover. “By going green, we're taking one more giant step to becoming the next great city of the South."
“SMG joins the City in expressing how extremely pleased we are to host this exciting and timely new event at the Shreveport Convention Center,” said Sam Voisin, General Manager. “I cannot think of a more relevant topic than green initiatives. In fact, the Convention Center has introduced several new programs in recent months to address the issue, including, among others, a new energy management program and the implementation of eco-friendly paper products in our food service area.”
