The wave of “Green” continues to flow through the meeting venue market with facilities across North America implementing new environmentally aware policies and programs. When the Palm Beach Garden DoubleTree Hotel in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida decided to build an adjacent, specialized Conference Center—the Executive Meeting Center—the Thayer Lodging Group, which bought and renovated the hotel in 2006, decided to make the supplemental meeting venue Green from the start.

“We recognize that the commercial environment will continue to have a dramatic impact on our natural environment, economy, health, and productivity,” said Leland C. Pillsbury, CEO, the Thayer Group, at the ground breaking ceremonies for the the Executive Meeting Center at the DoubleTree Hotel at Palm Beach Gardens
The Executive Meeting Center is reported to be Florida’s first LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification™ conference center. In honor of this designation, during the ground breaking festivities for the venue held in May, Leland C. Pillsbury, CEO, the Thayer Group, escorted the crowd to a ceremonial tree planting symbolizing the project’s environmental priorities. A few days prior to the event, special invited guests received a hand-crafted wooden box that contained a 12-inch sapling of a Longleaf Pine tree that would be planted in their name at the Palm Beach Gardens Arbor. The Longleaf Pine is indigenous to the region and they are rich in biodiversity which is often used as a measure of the health of a biological system. The Longleaf Pine’s seeds are large and nutritious, forming a significant food source for birds and other Florida wildlife.
