Named after the organization's founder Sam Gilmer, the award is considered the highest designation the society bestows.

"Darryl Arancio has been for past years a strong supporter of our Organization, said Carl C. Thompson, CGMP, executive director, of SGMP. Darryl has served on the SGMP Rance R. Willis Education Foundation for over three years, and his contributions to SGMP have been invaluable. We are extremely proud that he is the recipient of the 2006 Sam Gilmer Award."

This is the third SGMP honor earned by the 13-year veteran of Marriott International. He is a former recipient of the Supplier of the Year, Atlanta Chapter in 2000 and the SGMP President's Award in 2001.  "SGMP is unique in the hospitality industry's organizations in that while it promotes fostering strong and lasting business relationships, it does so with a touch of family, remarked Arancio. In representing Marriott International, we have enjoyed supporting SGMP through the years. Being an honored recipient of the 2006 Sam Gilmer Supplier Award is truly humbling, and will only strengthen my ties to SGMP and will serve as motivation to put forth greater effort towards its mission."
