San Jose, CA—At the 34th World Conference and Exposition of the Religious Conference Management Association (RCMA), Sally Gardiner, director of convention sales for the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, was awarded the RCMAs Presidents Award. RCMA President Tom Jackson of United Pentecostal Church International presented Gardiner with the award. In his remarks, Jackson noted that Gardiner has displayed her expertise in various tutorials, presided at general sessions, and served with distinction on RCMAs board of directors. "In this modern day, when people jump from one employer to another, she is somewhat unique in that she has worked for the same convention and visitors bureau for the past 16 years," Jackson said.

Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers Completes $20 Million Renovation |

CHICAGO—At the end of March, the nearly $20 million renovation on the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers will be officially completed when the last of the hotels 1,209 newly designed guestrooms and suites is unveiled. The refurbishment also included the hallways, lobby, Exhibition Hall, Club Lounge, health club and the hotels chic new hot spot, Chi Bar Renovating a hotel of this size and not disturbing service was no easy feat, says Rick Ueno, general manager of the hotel. The enhancements made over the last two years will advance the hotel within its competitive set and ensure the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers remains a driving force in the market and the premier convention hotel in the city. |

NEW ORLEANS—The Crescent City is promoting its 150th Annual Mardi Gras celebration, which begins on Feb. 17, as a sign this great American city is well on the way to regaining its status as a prime destination for tourists and meeting attendees.
Once tourism bounces back, the business and association meeting planners will follow, says Dean P. Andrews, vice president, Orient-Express Hotels, Trains & Cruises, owners of the Windsor Court in downtown New Orleans. |
